Baby's Vegetable Duo (6 months onwards)

One of baby's first food! After trying sweet potato puree for a week, you can already try this recipe. We should introduce 1 vegetable per week so that it will be easy for us to identify which food our baby is allergic to.

This is a great combination. It's a bit sweet because of the sweet potato and/or squash. Babies also love the consistency. It's better than potato and sweet potato duo because sayote (chayote)has a different texture that prevents this baby food from sticking to the throat.

Ingredients:
(Each vegetable should be diced about 1 cm per side)
1 cup sweet potatoes or squash
1 cup sayote (chayote)
2 cups water

In a pot, boil the water then add the vegetables. Simmer for 15 minutes. Puree in a blender or food processor at power 1 for about 5 seconds. Stir. Run the blender for another 5 seconds or until it has reached the consistency you want. A potato masher, a fork or a sieve/strainer can also be used.
If you will be using a blender or food processor, as much as possible use it for making baby food only to avoid contamination. Clean it very well right after using so that it will be ready for next use. I'm an OC Mom so I put a cup of purified/distilled water at room temperature in the blender. Run it for 1 minute at power 1. Drain the water. Put another cup of boiling water then run it for another minute at power 1. Drain the water turning it around carefully making sure that all the sides of the blender had been "sterilized" by the very hot water. I just want to make sure no dish detergent is left in the blender and all the other possible dirt/germ or bacteria are removed. I can't think of any other way to sterilize the blender. That's the closest I can think of.
